Whether you’re thinking about making the move to Park Slope, or you already live nearby in Brooklyn, you may wonder just how pet-friendly the neighborhood is. Well fear not because Park Slope is a dog lover’s paradise! You’ll find many dog-friendly local shops, restaurants, bars and dog parks in and around Park Slope—here are just a few. And while dogs aren’t allowed inside restaurants and bars due to NYC health code, they’re sometimes allowed outdoors at the establishments listed below.
Your Brooklyn home may not have a lot of outdoor space, but luckily there are lots of dog parks around Park Slope so you can take your pup out to get some sunshine, run around and socialize with their canine friends. Choose from Prospect Park Dog Run, South Slope Dog Run, Kensington Dog Run, Washington Park Dog Run, Mount Prospect Park or Hillside Dog Park a little farther away in Brooklyn Heights.
Prospect Park also offers off-leash hours from 6am-9am and 9pm-1am at the Long Meadow (except ballfields), Nethermead and Peninsula Meadow (except woodlands). Check out the Prospect Park Alliance website for details.
Many Park Slope area bars and eateries will allow dogs at their outdoor tables and some even provide water bowls and/or treats.

Park Slope-based teenager Quinn Reinhardt runs Dogs Allowed NYC, which highlights pet-friendly businesses who proudly display Dogs Allowed NYC decals on their storefront windows.
After adopting a mini schnauzer named Benji, dog owners Kelly and Phill realized how difficult it was to find places that would accommodate their four-legged friend, so they started Benji’s Guide to NYC to highlight some of Benji’s favorite spots.
And as we’ve mentioned in the past, BringFido is a great website for pet-friendly spots all around the country.
If in doubt you can always contact a business directly to ask whether they allow dogs. That’s probably a good idea in spite of our list since rules and allowances sometimes change.
